Waterproofing for wet rooms

Waterproofing is the most important layer in a bathroom. You can't see it after tiling, but it is what prevents water damage, mould and trouble with the neighbours.

Tiles and grout are not waterproof, and water seeps through them over time. That is why there must be a continuous waterproofing layer under the tiles, covering the whole floor and the walls higher up around the shower.

We apply waterproofing following the manufacturer's system: substrate preparation, priming, corner tapes, seals for pipe and drain penetrations, and waterproofing layers. Before tiling we check that the layer is intact and thick enough.

FAQ

Waterproofing: questions

Didn't find an answer? Email us at info@remondidiil.ee or call +372 5886 6218.

Can waterproofing be applied over old tiles?

Generally not. Proper waterproofing goes onto a clean, solid substrate, so old tiles need to be removed first.

How high up the walls does waterproofing go?

The floor is covered completely and the walls a little way up, higher around the shower. The exact solution depends on the room and the system used.

Do you do waterproofing without tiling?

We usually do waterproofing and tiling together so one team is responsible for the result. We'll discuss it during the site visit.
